Who gave you permission?

Most of us move through life navigating systems.

Schools. Clinics. Workplaces. Church. Parenting norms. Social expectations.

And for the most part, we follow the rules.
Not necessarily because we agree with them.

But because it’s easier.
Because that’s how things work.
Because we don’t want to cause trouble.

And sometimes… because we genuinely forgot we had a choice.

There’s something that happens when someone quietly points out that another option exists.

A pause.
A small shift.
And then, sometimes, everything changes.

It doesn’t require a dramatic confrontation.
It doesn’t require permission from the system.

Just the awareness that a different path is available.

What does this have to do with health?

More than you might think.

In Germanische Heilkunde, we’re reminded that the biological programs that run in the body begin with perception.

Specifically with how we experience a moment.

And certain kinds of experiences have a very particular biological signature:

For example, the experience of feeling trapped.
Of having no way out.
Of being stuck in a situation with no visible exit.

When the mind perceives this, even briefly, the body can respond.
With a pattern.
A program.
A process that is not random.

It’s not that every stressful moment becomes a biological event.
It’s that certain qualities of experience, the ones that catch us off-guard, that feel dramatic, that leave us feeling alone and without resource, those are the kinds of experiences the body can respond to in a structured way.

The perception of being cornered.
Of not being allowed.
Of not having a voice.
Of being controlled by something outside yourself.

These aren’t just emotions.
They can be the starting point of a biological response.

When you start to understand that the body responds to perception, not just to physical events, something changes in how you relate to your own health.

You start to notice:

What was I experiencing just before this began?
Was I feeling free in that moment, or hemmed in?
Was there some resistance to something or someone?

These aren’t questions that create more worry.
They’re questions that help return a sense of authorship.

You don’t have to fight every system to live freely within yourself

Most of us live within structures we didn’t create.

And whether we agree with every rule or not…
we still have to navigate the reality of living alongside other people.

This isn’t about burning your life down trying to escape every system that feels imperfect.

Sometimes that pursuit creates even more strain, fear, conflict, and isolation.

It’s about something quieter.
The inner posture.
The private knowing.
The small daily moments of choosing from the inside.

You can recognise what’s happening around you…
and still remain grounded within yourself.

You can move through systems
without feeling owned by them.

And perhaps that inner sense of freedom matters biologically more than we realise.

The body may respond differently when you do.

If this is a new way of thinking for you…

Take your time with it. There’s no urgency.

But if you’d like to understand more about how biology maps to inner experience, including the patterns associated with different kinds of conflicts and perceptions, you can begin with the Foundations series inside the NBW Library.

It’s where I’ve gathered the core principles, patterns, and study material in one clear, structured place for people wanting to explore Germanische Heilkunde more deeply.
